OLSON LEWIS + Architects’ Animal Care Studio has worked with MSPCA-Angell Animal Medical Center for more than a decade as the facility’s “House Doctor.” Through master planning and a series of phased renovations and additions, the partnership helps the hospital expand specialized care while maintaining daily operations.
Completed work includes the 2021 Critical Care Unit and Supportive Care Unit, with new treatment bays, expanded patient areas, noise-control systems, and private family visiting rooms. Other projects have added necropsy facilities, a linear accelerator vault, I-131 treatment and MR imaging rooms, exam suites, recovery spaces, endoscopy and dental areas, and expanded shelter dog holding. Pharmaceutical upgrades include a USP 800 specialty pharmacy and a compounding pharmacy. A new staff break room provides a dedicated place for care teams to recharge.
A master plan and facility analysis guide this work over time, coordinating construction with ongoing clinical operations. Each phase supports patient care, staff workflows, and the experience of families while preparing the medical center for future needs.
