Completed in 2012, the Thermo Fisher Scientific Center of Excellence adapts an existing industrial building in Tewksbury into a 156,000 sf facility for research, product development, and manufacturing. The $20M project consolidates three former locations, bringing the teams and processes behind portable analytical instruments together on one campus.
The plan follows a clear progression from executive offices, open work areas, and a customer presentation center to engineering laboratories, testing suites, and precision manufacturing. The research spaces support work with Raman and X-ray fluorescence spectrometers, while the production floor is configured for the assembly, alignment, and calibration of sensitive handheld instruments.
Custom HVAC systems maintain the temperature and humidity conditions required for testing and calibration. Structurally isolated laboratory areas protect sensitive work from interior and exterior vibration. Expansive glazing brings daylight into the engineering spaces, while durable, chemical-resistant finishes meet the demands of the manufacturing floor.
