After a lengthy town approval process, the Maine Lakes Resource Center has become a recognized community asset — included in Belgrade's Comprehensive Plan as a resource the town now actively champions.
The project serves the Belgrade Lakes Association and its lead sponsors, the Belgrade Regional Conservation Alliance and Colby College, as a shared conservation resource center at the heart of the Belgrade Lakes region. The 3,500 sf structure is organized across three levels: open concept office space for the collaborative conservation groups on the second floor, a flexible entry-level gathering area for cultural and educational programming, and a dedicated research laboratory on the ground floor for Colby College's environmental studies program.
The design draws from the vernacular of the old village barn — a form familiar to the region — while incorporating current sustainable building technology throughout. The project is under construction.
