It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Randy Lewis

In Memory of H. Randolph (Randy) Lewis

It is with sadness that we share the passing of our partner, colleague, and dear friend H. Randolph (Randy) Lewis. Randy passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, May 20, 2017.

Randy’s life was a blend of creativity, discipline, and heartfelt connection. A passionate musician known for his skill with the banjo, Randy saw parallels between music, science, engineering, and architecture. His lifelong pursuit was the balance between rigor and originality, structure and improvisation.

His optimism and grace never wavered—even in his final days.

Randy’s partnership with John Olson began in 1968 at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, culminating in the founding of OLSON LEWIS + Architects in 1980. From designing laboratories at Harvard University to serving biotechnology leaders and educational institutions, Randy shaped not just our firm’s legacy, but the spaces where learning, discovery, and community continue to thrive.

Randy retired in 2015 to focus on family and personal passions. His loss is felt deeply by all who knew him.
